Pusha T’s ‘Daytona’ & A$AP Rocky’s ‘Testing’ First Week Sales Fare
This next month is promising to be a massive one for hip-hop, with projects from Drake, Kanye and Kid Cudi, and seemingly everyone else will be dropping this month. However, the festivities truly started last week, with the release of two highly anticipated albums: Pusha T’s Daytona and A$AP Rocky’s Testing.
It’s been a little over a week since the two projects were released, and now we have reports about how well they did in terms of sales. Pusha T obviously drummed up a lot of press for Daytona with his high-profile and savage beef with Drake, and Rocky has been engaging in bizarre marketing strategies for this album for months now. As such, both albums were primed to do numbers, but one of them ended up with a slight edge over the other.
According to Hits Daily Double, Rocky’s Testing bested Pusha’s Daytona by just over 1000 units sold, with Rocky selling 73,538 albums first week and Pusha selling 72,349. Included in that number is the 12k and 34k pure copies of the album they sold, respectively.
In today’s climate those are very respectable numbers, though it may not be enough for them to debut at the top of the charts, especially when juggernauts like Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys and now Sean Mendes’ self-titled album have arrived.
Juice WRLD’s first week sales for his recent Goodbye & Good Riddance album have also arrived, with him selling 39k his first week, with less than 2k being pure sales. Not bad for a recently established artist.
